Looking to add value to your home? Installing a spa or pool is a wonderful idea to add to your list. Plus, your backyard barbecues will be much more fun. The process of installing a pool or spa isn't something you can handle on your own, though. You will need a team of experienced electricians in Lugoff, SC to ensure your system is set up correctly. That way, you can enjoy your pool or spa for years to come, and it'll be in great working order when it's time to sell.

Why Do I Need an Electrical Contractor for Pool or Spa Installation?

Installing a pool or spa is a very involved job that includes more than digging out space for a pool or spa. These units are very complex and have a whole host of electrical needs, from heating units and filters to color-changing lights that wow your guests. Having a professional install these parts is vital. Otherwise, you'll be swimming in a dirty, near-freezing pool or spa.

Hiring Sievert Electrical Contractors guarantees your pool or spa will be in proper working order for years and years.

EV Charging Station Installation

Finding a reliable EV charging station when you're out and about is still a gamble in this day and age. While EV charger availability is improving, most EV owners prefer to have a charging station installed at home. But doing so is easier said than done and often requires the help of a professional electrician.

Why Do I Need an Electrical Contractor for EV Charging Station Installation?

If you're like most homeowners, you don't have the proper permit to install your own EV charging station. For that reason alone, you need to rely on a pro who has the right tools and electrical know-how to handle the job. Plus, EV chargers need much more voltage than standard electrical systems you may find in your home. That makes installing these devices much more dangerous than average appliances. Hiring Sievert Electrical Contractors to install your charging station ensures it's completed quickly, correctly, and safely.

Select Sites are development-ready properties along the CSX network where standard land use considerations and comprehensive due diligence items have been previously addressed. These properties are able to meet the needs of a wide variety of manufacturers, significantly reducing the time required to construct facilities and ultimately bring products to market.

“South Carolina has a strong track record of attracting industrial projects with significant investment,” said Tom Tisa, head of business development at CSX. “The Central South Carolina Megasite is an outstanding location for another high-impact investment that capitalizes on the environmental advantages of rail and CSX’s commitment to helping customers lower their carbon footprint.”

CSX introduced the Select Site program in 2012 to better serve new and existing customers on its network and those of its short line partners. CSX works with Austin Consulting, a nationally known site-selection consulting firm, to screen candidate sites and assist communities with the application and certification process.

“It’s rare to find a property this large that is adjacent to both a railroad mainline and an interstate highway at an existing interchange, with all utilities on site,” said Jonathan Gemmen, senior director, Austin Consulting.

Access to the 1,426-acre site is located half mile north of Interstate 20, less than a 30-minute drive northeast from downtown Columbia.

“As Columbia and the Central SC Region continue to grow at a pace faster than the nation, this site receives more and more interest from prospects,” said Nelson Lindsay, president and chief executive officer of the Central SC Alliance.

Kershaw County identified the megasite property over 15 years ago as an opportunity to attract a large industrial user that could generate new jobs and investment with the potential to transform communities. Subsequently, Kershaw County performed all the necessary due diligence studies, such as environmental, archaeological, endangered species, wetland delineation and multiple geotechnical studies. Large portions of the megasite have been cleared and a 500,000-gallon water tank is under construction on the north end of the site.

“Kershaw County has the finest and most-ready megasite in the state", said Julian Burns, chairman of Kershaw County Council. "Taking part in the CSX Select Site program demonstrates Kershaw's commitment to economic development."

The Central South Carolina Megasite is now the third site in South Carolina with the CSX Select Site designation. This property is one of 26 properties across CSX’s service territory to meet the rigorous site- selection criteria.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — A former WWE star who now lives in the Midlands is making headlines for an incident at his home.

“Hacksaw” Jim Duggan is known for carrying around a two-by-four and giving the thumbs up ahead of his matches in the ring. And he's currently a Kershaw County resident.

Last week Duggan posted a thank you note to Kershaw County deputies on social media for how they handled an incident at his home. The deputies responded after Duggan said a man he did not know jumped his fence and began pounding on his front door.

Duggan went on to say he held the man at gunpoint until law enforcement arrived. Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan said this all started a few houses down from where the Duggans live.

“A young man and a young lady had some problems in the past,” he said. “She separated from him, went to live with her dad, who lives down the road from the Duncan residence. And he shows up at the house. Dad's not aware of it. He looks up, there's a guy inside his house who he feels is a threat to his daughter, so he immediately starts assaulting him, hitting him, and somebody in the house pulled a gun on him.”

The sheriff said the man ran from the area “scared to death.”

“Turns out that apparently there was a back-and-forth conversation between the young man and the young lady, and I think she kind of invited him to the house,” the sheriff said. “Dad didn't know this.”

The sheriff said this was the core case that they were investigating. The situation, however, continued to the Duggans’ house where authorities said the young man beat on the front door and came in.

“But he immediately said he was scared. Somebody was trying to kill him,” the sheriff said. “Hacksaw listened to what he was saying and, to start with, he felt like it was somebody trying a home invasion and he was like a diversion - and they may come in the back door.”

“And so, you know, he held him at gunpoint, got his wife Deborah to call our dispatch and she was able to tell him what was going on,” the sheriff added. “We got deputies out there and as soon as we got everything organized at that point, he's like, OK, I understand why he was going door to door.”

The sheriff said that deputies and the Duggans were glad that the situation ended the way it did.

When it was all said and done, no charges were filed in connection with the case. Duggan said on social media that he and his wife are safe and there was no damage.

Attic and Crawl Space Solutions provide crawl space installation, waterproofing, and repair with high-quality services at highly competitive prices.

Attics and crawl spaces play an important part in regulating the thermal condition of a house. When issues are detected, an inspection by a professional is necessary to prevent further damage or risk costly repairs and a decline in the overall health and safety of the building.

When these spaces become damp and musty, they need to be restored by professional contractors trained to carry out attic or crawl space encapsulation and repairs. Lugoff-based Attic And Crawl Space Solutions is a leading contractor with extensive experience in restoring properties and providing effective and affordable solutions to residents of Columbia, SC and its environs.

Encapsulations and foundation repairs are necessary to protect the home from excessive moisture and prevent harmful microbes and fungi from infecting the interior. But they must be done correctly to ensure the structure's overall integrity and keep the home’s interior tightly sealed. However, if the insulation is overly sealed with too many layers of materials, moisture can become trapped between them and encourage fungi growth.

The highly experienced experts from Attic and Crawl Space Solutions are skilled in attic and crawl space insulation, waterproofing, and repair. They are licensed and know how to assess these spaces and recommend the best encapsulation solution to meet any client's needs.

The company’s team of trained experts will install moisture and vapor barriers and ventilation systems to ensure optimum protection and performance. The decades of experience in resolving crawlspace and attic-related issues for residents in Columbia is what separates them from others in the industry.

The company provides various related services besides attic and crawl space encapsulations. They include foundation repairs, maintenance, moisture remediation & drainage, fungi cleaning, termite damage, and water damage repairs. And to ensure home energy efficiency the company's experts also conduct assessments for air sealing, duct sealing, and insulation.

Attic and Crawl Space Solutions is a trusted name with over a decade of providing the best service to its clients. It is a licensed and insured residential builder, accredited by the Building Performance Institute, and certified by EPA as a lead-safe firm.

Based on the assessment, recommendations for the most suitable repairs and remediation will be made considering the client’s needs and budget. They may include moisture & fungi control, energy efficiency, improved indoor air quality, and structural protection.

Attic and Crawl Space issues can lead to greater problems if not addressed on time. The company’s mantra is that every home can have access to high-quality services at affordable prices—it is no surprise that clients speak so highly of Attic and Crawl Space Solutions.

It's the first earthquake in roughly two weeks in the region.

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — While more sporadic, earthquakes continue in Kershaw County as the area quickly approaches the one-year anniversary of when the swarm started.

The latest earthquake, with a magnitude of 1.7 according to the U.S. Geological Survey, is the 83rd since rumbles started becoming somewhat commonplace in the Lugoff and Elgin regions in late December 2021.

According to data from the agency, the quake happened around 7:48 p.m. on Friday and was allegedly felt by at least three people who reported the rattle on its earthquake monitoring website. Earthquakes below a magnitude of 2.5 are typically not felt by the public.

The last earthquake to rumble the region was on Nov. 24 and had a magnitude of 2.0. The earthquakes still vary in size but have become less frequent than they were at different points in 2022 when they were an almost daily occurrence.

More seismic equipment has been installed in the area in recent months but an exact reason for the centralized earthquake activity hasn't yet been determined.

While having the earthquakes focused in Kershaw County as a swarm hasn't been the norm historically, earthquakes are not a new occurrence in South Carolina, which has them occasionally across the state. South Carolina was also the location of the largest earthquake in the history of the southeastern U.S. which happened in the Charleston area in 1886 and was estimated to have a magnitude above 7.0.

Historical records suggest the earthquake, located in what is now known as the Middleton Place-Summerville Seismic Zone, was felt as far away as Chicago, Boston, and even Cuba.

However, the quakes shaking Elgin are in a different location in the state along the Eastern Piedmont Fault System which runs from Alabama to Virginia.

ELGIN, South Carolina — The USGS is providing scenarios to estimate the chance of larger earthquakes as part of an ongoing swarm in the region.

The swarm began on December 27, 2021, with a magnitude 3.3 earthquake. The largest earthquake to occur so far has been a magnitude 3.6 event on June 29, 2022.

An earthquake “swarm” refers to a prolonged sequence of earthquakes that lacks any clear primary event or mainshock, in contrast to an aftershock sequence where a large mainshock is followed by a decaying sequence of (mostly) smaller earthquakes. Swarms can keep the earthquake rate elevated for a few days to many months. It is generally not possible to predict how long an ongoing swarm will last until it has run its course and it’s impossible to predict the size of the largest earthquake in the sequence.

This area has a history of occasional small, scattered earthquakes, but none of particularly large magnitude. The largest earthquake within 50 miles (80 km) was in 1913 in Union County, when a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck about 90 km northwest of the recent earthquakes. That quake caused damage to brick and stone buildings, destroyed chimneys, and displaced furniture in homes. The most damaging earthquake in South Carolina history was the magnitude 7.0 1886 Charleston earthquake, located about 87 miles (140 km) to the southeast of this current swarm.

During an earthquake swarm, the rate of earthquakes is increased, and the probability of larger earthquakes goes up accordingly. This swarm has produced a fairly constant trickle of earthquakes since December 2021, with 0 to 15 earthquakes larger than M2.0 occurring each month. Many smaller earthquakes – some of them still large enough to be felt – have also been recorded in the area. The rate of small earthquakes allows us to estimate the probability of larger earthquakes.

The USGS provides scenarios that are based on the assumption that the rate of smaller earthquakes remains roughly the same over the next month.

The following three scenarios describe possibilities of what could happen over a one-month timeframe (as of August 22, 2022).

Only one of these scenarios will occur within a particular month.

3. Scenario Three (Least likely, less than 1% chance): A much larger earthquake (magnitude 5 or higher)

Earthquakes can be unsettling, no matter the magnitude. The U.S. Geological Survey advises everyone to be aware of the possibility of future earthquakes, especially when in or around vulnerable structures such as unreinforced masonry buildings. This swarm may lead to larger and potentially damaging earthquakes in the future, so remember to: “Drop, Cover, and Hold on” if you feel shaking. When there are more earthquakes, the chance of a large earthquake is greater, which means that the chance of damage is greater. Please refer to preparedness information provided by your local and state emergency management offices.

No one can predict the exact time or place of any earthquake, including aftershocks or events in swarms. Our earthquake forecasts give us an understanding of the chances of having more earthquakes within a given time period in the affected area. We calculate this earthquake forecast using a statistical analysis based on past earthquakes.

One uncertain aspect of this swarm is how long the elevated earthquake activity will last. The chance of larger earthquakes will remain elevated as long as the swarm continues. We will update this advisory as swarm activity increases or decreases, or if larger earthquakes occur. We are carefully monitoring activity throughout the region and will continue to provide information to help people stay safe and care for themselves and each other.

The USGS and its partners in the Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) are monitoring the earthquake sequence in South Carolina. USGS ANSS partners in the region are the Center for Earthquake Research and Information (CERI) at the University of Memphis and the University of South Carolina. A summary of the main features of the sequence is also included on the USGS event pages for the larger earthquakes in the sequence and at the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.

Updated advisories will be released on the USGS Earthquake Hazard Program website. For media inquiries, please contact Elizabeth Goldbaum, egoldbaum@usgs.gov.
